Charles Singson, SM Supermalls AVP for Mall Operations, Mina Kahn, SM Supermalls AVP for Transport Management)

SM Supermalls has unveiled the “SM Supermalls Sustainability Digest 2025: Work and Wins.” The inaugural report showcases how sustainability is woven deeply into SM’s core strategies, ensuring its nationwide network of most-loved Supermalls remain safe, resilient, and environmentally responsible for the benefit of Filipinos and the communities that surround its business.

The comprehensive report spotlights SM’s environmental efforts that stem from the sustainability pillars of energy, water, and waste. Through the digest, SM Supermalls reinforces its commitment to blending environmentally responsible practices into its operations focused on creating more resilient communities and advancing environmental management.

“What makes the sustainability approach of SM Supermalls unique is the scale in which we are able to implement our hard work. For us sustainability is not about mere compliance. It is deeply embedded in every aspect of operations across our nationwide network of most-loved Supermalls to serve our customers and communities better,” said Joaquin San Agustin, SM Supermalls Executive Vice President for Marketing.

SM Supermalls’ dedication to environmental responsibility dates back to the 90s, when Mr. Hans Sy, current Chairman of the Executive Committee of SM Prime Holdings, pioneered resource-saving initiatives, particularly by leading the installation of sewage treatment plants that recycle water for irrigation, sanitation, and air-conditioning.

Today, SM’s environmental efforts continue to evolve through integrated solutions in renewable energy, water stewardship, and waste management across its mall operations nationwide.

On energy efficiency, SM Supermalls Vice-President for Mall Operations Junias M. Eusebio highlighted the company’s increased reliance on renewables to support its long-term sustainability goals. “Not all solar energy can power the whole supply. But rather, it complements the energy mix of the grid plus the solar energy we generate.”

SM’s environmental programs have also expanded to involve broader customer touchpoints for deeper community engagement across the Philippines.

“Our scale gives us the unique privilege of involving our customers and communities across the country in the shared journey toward sustainability. SM not only strives to implement measures that preserve our natural resources, we also empower everyone to engage with customer touchpoints on sustainability at their most-loved SM mall,” said Liza B. Silerio, SM Supermalls Vice President for Corporate Compliance and Sustainability.

Moreover, SM Supermalls enhances community resilience against natural disasters by continuously upgrading its rainwater catchment basins, automated weather stations, and earthquake-monitoring systems. SM Supermalls has carried Mr. Sy’s vision forward by making sustainability a core part of how its malls are designed, managed, and operated.

Together with government institutions, local government units, stakeholders, and volunteers, SM Supermalls has strengthened its role in working for a cleaner, greener future for all.

Additionally, SM Prime’s Net Zero 2040 goal envisions powering malls with renewable energy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These objectives align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals that integrate environmental action and resilience-building.

Crafting a Wardrobe of Wonder This Season

As the boundaries between our digital lives and the natural world continue to blur, a new trend has emerged in the fashion industry: the "Enchanted Everyday." In 2026, people are looking for more than just utility in their clothing; they are seeking a sense of wonder, a touch of the ethereal, and a connection to the unseen. This movement isn't just about costume or fantasy, it’s about infusing the mundane with a sense of the extraordinary.

Whether you are lounging by a hidden spring or navigating the urban jungle, here is how to invite a little enchantment into your summer style.

The Charm of the Occult Aesthetic

Fashion has always been a form of self-expression, but today it has become a form of manifestation. We are seeing a massive surge in apparel that incorporates celestial motifs, sacred geometry, and alchemical symbols. The goal is to wear clothing that feels like it has a story to tell.

A lightweight magic shirt serves as the perfect foundation for this look. Designers are currently favoring oversized silhouettes in natural linens and silks that billow in the wind, creating a silhouette that feels both ancient and contemporary. These pieces often feature "hidden" details—lunar phases printed on the inside of the placket or sigils embroidered in thread that only glows under specific light. It is a way to carry your personal intentions with you wherever you go.

Ethereal Elegance Under the Sun

When the temperatures rise, the trend shifts toward silhouettes that prioritize flow and movement. The rise of mystical summer dresses has redefined beachside and garden party attire. Unlike the stiff fabrics of the past, these garments utilize "liquid" textiles, materials that shimmer like water or shift colors as you move through different lighting.

Key features for this season include:

  • Sheer Layering: Using tulle and organza to create a ghostly, multi-dimensional effect.
  • Earth Tones: Deep amethysts, moss greens, and celestial blues that ground the supernatural aesthetic in nature.
  • Botanical Prints: Designs that feature poisonous plants or night-blooming flowers, adding an edge of mystery to the traditional floral dress.

Divinity in the Water

Even at the pool or the shore, the desire for an enchanted look remains strong. The latest innovations in aquatic fashion have brought us magic swimwear that reacts to the environment. We are seeing bikinis and one-pieces made from thermo-chromic fabrics that change patterns when they hit the water, mimicking the shimmering scales of a mythical creature.

These pieces aren't just visually stunning; they are built for the modern siren. With high-waisted cuts and intricate lattice-work inspired by Celtic knots or astrological charts, this year's swim trends prove that you can be functional and otherworldly at the same time.

Beyond the Screen: The Evolution of Modern Fan Identity

The landscape of fandom has undergone a massive transformation. What was once a subculture tucked away in basements and comic book shops has moved to the center of global pop culture. In 2026, expressing your passion for high-fantasy lore, complex coding languages, or retro gaming isn't just a hobby, it is a lifestyle. This shift is most visible in the way we dress, as fashion and fandom collide to create something entirely new.

The New Aesthetic of the Intellectual Explorer

Fashion is no longer about fitting in; it is about finding your "tribe." For those who pride themselves on their deep knowledge of obscure sci-fi or scientific theories, the traditional wardrobe has been replaced by more expressive pieces. A high-quality geek t shirt serves as a modern-day coat of arms. It signals to others that you value storytelling, logic, and imagination.

The trend this year has moved away from "loud" logos toward minimalist, "if-you-know-you-know" designs. We are seeing a rise in architectural sketches of fictional starships or chemical breakdowns of potions found in RPGs. This subtle approach allows enthusiasts to carry their passions into professional settings or casual social outings with equal ease.

Comfort Meets Capability

As remote work and digital nomadism remain the standard, the demand for comfort has never been higher. However, comfort doesn’t have to mean a lack of personality. The classic nerd shirt has been redesigned for 2026 with premium, sustainable fabrics like bamboo and organic cotton. These aren't the stiff, boxy garments of the past; they feature tailored fits and breathable weaves that cater to the long hours spent in front of a workstation or at a convention hall.

Furthermore, the integration of "smart" fabrics is beginning to surface. Some high-end fan apparel now includes anti-microbial properties and moisture-wicking technology, ensuring that your favorite piece of gear stays fresh through every midnight premiere or gaming marathon.

The High-Performance Fan

For those who want to bridge the gap between athletic aesthetics and digital passions, the rise of specialized fan-wear is undeniable. A geeky jersey offers the perfect solution for the active fan. Taking inspiration from professional esports kits and classic sports silhouettes, these pieces use technical mesh and vibrant sublimation printing to showcase guild logos or team colors from virtual worlds.

It is a celebration of the "cyber-athlete" and the tabletop strategist alike. These jerseys are designed for movement, making them just as suitable for a morning jog as they are for a high-stakes tournament.

Why Japanese Clothing is Dominating Global Style?

In the world of fashion, few cultures balance the line between ancient tradition and futuristic innovation as perfectly as Japan. Whether you are walking through the neon-lit streets of Shibuya or the serene temples of Kyoto, style is viewed as a form of respect, both for oneself and for the craft. In 2026, Japanese clothing has transcended niche "Otaku" culture to become a cornerstone of the global premium wardrobe.

From the meticulous construction of denim to the avant-garde silhouettes of Tokyo fashion week, here is why your next wardrobe upgrade should look toward the East.

The Philosophy of Quality

What sets Japanese clothing apart is the concept of Monozukuri the art of making things. While Western fashion often chases rapid cycles, Japanese designers tend to focus on longevity, texture, and the "hand-feel" of a garment. This dedication results in clothing that doesn’t just look good on a hanger but evolves and improves with every wear.

The Essential Japanese Shirt: A Study in Detail

When we talk about the quintessential Japanese shirt, we aren't just talking about a basic button-down. We are talking about a garment defined by precision.

In 2026, the trend has shifted toward:

  • Open-Collar Wonders: Inspired by the "Aloha" shirts brought back by Japanese immigrants, the modern version features traditional Ukiyo-e art or minimalist geometric patterns.
  • Heavyweight Basics: A Japanese shirt is often characterized by its weight. Using "loopwheel" knitting machines—some of the last of their kind in the world—designers create shirts without side seams, offering unparalleled comfort and a shape that never sags.
  • Indigo Dyeing: Using natural Aizome (indigo) techniques, these shirts age beautifully, developing a unique patina that tells the story of the wearer.

The Rise of the Japanese Jersey

Athleisure has taken a sophisticated turn with the rise of the Japanese jersey. Moving beyond the stadium, these pieces blend high-performance fabrics with high-fashion aesthetics.

The Japanese jersey is currently making waves in two specific areas:

  • Streetwear Kits: Inspired by the J-League and local baseball culture, these jerseys feature bold kanji typography and sleek, oversized fits that pair perfectly with wide-leg trousers.

  • Tech-Fabric Evolution: Utilizing Japan’s world-leading textile technology, these jerseys offer moisture-wicking and heat-regulating properties while maintaining a matte, luxury finish that looks nothing like traditional gym wear.

How to Style the Look

To master the Japanese aesthetic, embrace the "Rule of Proportions." Pair a structured, oversized Japanese shirt with tapered trousers, or layer a vibrant Japanese jersey over a long-sleeve thermal for a layered, urban look.

Investing in Japanese clothing is more than a fashion choice; it’s an appreciation for a culture that refuses to cut corners. Whether it’s the stitch of a sleeve or the breathability of a fabric, the difference is felt the moment you put it on.
