Heads up! Gary V on Novuhair: putting energy into prevention

Nothing describes Gary Valenciano quite like his moniker “Mr. Pure Energy,” He is the very image of youthful vibrance, whether onstage or not. That’s why it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he values the way he looks the same way that he values the core of who he is: a prayerful, faithful husband, dependable father, and an outstanding entertainer.

Part of what makes Gary stay young looking is his head of hair. What many people don’t know is that, like all other men his age, Gary once worried about hair thinning and hair loss. That’s why, at the first signs of the problem, Gary sought to find ways to prevent it from becoming worse.

“I first noticed the hair loss in the shower, after I toweled my hair dry. Then one day, my team of hairstylists noticed that my hair was thinning, too. That’s when they told me to look for the product that Fanny Serrano was using, a product called NOVUHAIR,” remarked Gary on his journey to regaining control over his hair loss.

Filipinos who sit more than 6 hours every day at risk of acquiring chronic diseases

Photo grabbed from google

Studies have shown that up to 70 percent of people spend their working hours sitting more than six hours per day, unknowingly putting themselves at risk for developing chronic non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and hypertension.
But lack of physical activity is not only occurring in the working population. According to Dr. Paul Quilino, Medical Affairs manager at Healthway Medical and wellness advocate, healthy sports and recreational activities are becoming less of the norm in our society regardless of gender and age.
It is widely accepted that physical activity plays a critical role in keeping one’s health and wellness in prime condition. In fact, Quilino stressed that an active lifestyle “promotes proper growth and development of the bones and muscles, helps burn stored energy, keeps cardiovascular system in tiptop condition, and helps improve overall physical endurance and agility.”
“This makes the shift to a more active lifestyle all the more important,” Quilino said. “Exercise and physical activity are probably two of the most cost-effective and significant factors that one can engage in, to help lessen the risk of developing chronic diseases. With this, Filipinos, regardless of their age, should keep a close watch on their sleep, diet, and exercise to meet in order to stay healthy.”
To ensure that Filipinos achieve the most desirable lifestyle, Healthway Medical—the most trusted and preferred mall-based clinics in the Philippines—promotes its Sleep, Eat Right, Exercise, and De-stress (S.E.E.D.) program to underpin the importance of an active and preventive healthcare especially to the working group.
According to Carmie de Leon, vice president for sales and marketing of Healthway Medical, exercise is always lauded as an effective tool in preventing all kinds of diseases. However, being active is not the sole factor that plays part in curbing a sedentary lifestyle.
De Leon said, “People who work eight hours or more daily have the responsibility take care of themselves in any way possible. Just like Dr. Quilino noted, taking the initiative to walk at least 20 minutes a couple of times within the week may help your body adapt to different physical activities. Eventually, you can slowly progress to brisk walking, then jogging, then running in greater lengths and frequency.”
When Filipinos adopt this routine, they may challenge themselves to add distance or intensify the workout until they finally get rid of such sedentary lifestyles, Quilino added.
Aside from moving a step closer to health and wellness, he said “the main goal in any ideal diet is to maximize intake of essential nutrients which are often found in fruits, vegetables and whole grains, and lessen intake of those which are known to increase our risk for chronic non-communicable disease.”
“Practically, the only way one will be able to follow such recommendations is by adapting and tailor-fitting these in their own socio-cultural preferences, as well as medical and physical needs,” Quilino added.
To further nurture one’s physicality, Quilino highlighted the importance of quality sleep in ensuring work productivity.
“In all ages, sleep induces secretion of certain chemicals in the brain, which in turn signals to the whole body to regenerate. And it’s not just the length of sleep we get butthe quality of sleep as well,” Quilino said.
Quilino added, “Some studies point to the benefits of early sleep (within the first 4 hours of sleep), deep sleep on the 5th to 7th hour and near waking. What we want to point out here is that to function normally awake, we also have to care about the amount and quality of sleep we get.”
Because of today’s generation’s affinity to digital gadgets, Quilino emphasized that these modern-day technologies play a greater role in affecting people in decreasing their time and interest in more physical recreational activities. Digital gadgets effectively decrease physical activity and also play a role in disrupting one’s sleep-awake cycle, reducing sleeping time, hence, a good way to achieve quality sleep is to “keep yourself from using your phone before you sleep.”
“Most mobile games aim to instantly gratify their users, and in effect, feed (and increase) their appetite to even play more,” Quilino said. “The unwanted contrast against playing outdoors becomes more magnified and feeds into the vicious cycle. Light stimulation (not necessarily the radiation) during the sleep phase of our natural sleep-wake cycle signals the brain to stay alert, and therefore, stay awake. With this, Filipinos should opt to minimize their gadget use especially when they’re hitting the bunk.”
De Leon, on the other hand, said that while sleeping, eating right, and exercising are important pillars in achieving wellness not only in terms of mental health but also physical and social well-being, it is also crucial to take a break once in a while to curb work-related stress.
“Work-related stress is the body’s common response when people are confronted with work demands that do not match their knowledge and abilities,” De Leon said. “Since it challenges their ability to cope, 75 percent of adults experience moderate to high levels of stress, which is quite alarming.”
She added, “People who work hard to give their families a more comfortable life also need to have that comfort for themselves. With this, they need to take a break from their daily routines and do something that de-stresses them,” De Leon said.

Guava Leaves as Skin Wash

Much has been said and written about the medicinal value of various plants in the Philippines. In 1997,the Traditional and Alternative Medicine Act which promoted and advocated the use of traditional and alternative health care modalities through scientific research and product development was signed by then President Fidel Ramos and Since then, the Department of Health has endorsed 10 medicinal plants which can be used as herbal medicines in the Philippines because of its proven health benefits. . These are , lagundi (Vitex negundo), yerba buena (Mentha cordifolia Opiz), sambong (Blumea balsamifera), tsaang gubat (Carmona retusa), ampalaya (Momordica charantia), niyug-niyogan (Quisqualis indica), bayabas (Psidium guajava), akapulko (Cassia alata), ulasimang bato (Peperomia pellucida), and bawang (Allium sativum). Many of them are already available in commercial preparations.
One of the more popular traditional medicines is the guava, scientific name is psidium guajava, “bayabas” in Pilipino. . This plant has been used for many generations and recognized by arbolaryos (herbalists) and those who practice natural medicine.
Boiled, chopped or pounded guava leaves have been used and accepted as an antiseptic for wound disinfection. It helps clean off bacteria and germs found in the wound in order to prevent complications and infections.
To prevent oral health problems such as tooth decay and gum infection, boiled guava leaves can also be used as a mouthwash.
As a skin wash to clean skin and help accelerate healing and prevent infection one has to boil leaves for 15-20 minutes, cool and use as a soak, a wash or a bath rinse for wounds or prickly heat or fungal infections such as athlete’s foot But the leaves are not readily available. With the urbanization of more areas, less guava trees
Now there is Guavawash.. Guavawash takes away the hassle of looking for guava trees to get their leaves. One has to just mix a Guavawash sachet in warm water. Made from guava leaf extracts, Guavawash also contains other natural extracts recognized for its skin care benefits eucalyptus for its cooling effect, lavender, known as antiseptic and for aromatherapy. lemon grass as an anti-microbial, fungicidal, mint to soothe itchy skin, ;rose root as an anti-oxidant and to prevent premature wrinkles
The effectiveness of all these herbal ingredients go as far back as the heydays of the albularyo. Now, they are all found in Guavawash - a natural and convenient skin wash. Guavawash is available at major Mercury Drugstore and Watsons branches.

My Breastfeeding Journey

We want the best for our baby especially in terms of "Milk".I remember when i had my  eldest Mikael,I didn't breastfeed him.Maybe because i was a first time mom and i don't know  lot of things. In short i'm not prepared to breastfeed maybe most of the First Time Mom experienced it.
Still not ready to breastfeed,I gave birth last year via C-Section what made me breastfeed my youngest Mishael was when we had our first "skin to skin Contact" the feeling was different.I began breastfeed him first time always the hardest part.I don't know what are the right positions to breastfeed.
Sleepless night,Many mothers can't survive breastfeeding because of this,I need to wake up always to feed him.I noticed also that i'm always hungry.
When Mishael was 3 months old i noticed there's a lump in my breast hard as a stone i think.I was scared.I thought i have a breast cancer.I can't take the pain.I suffered the pain for one week i didn't consult it to the doctor immediately. Thus week i asked other moms about this,They say it's a mastitis,Some says only operation can let the milk out,Other says just hot compres massaged downward can help.I did the hot compress but didn't work. After suffering for one week i had a chance to consult it the doctor and yes it is mastitis. "Mastitis is inflammation of tissue in one or both mammary glands inside the breast. Mastitis usually affects lactating women - women who are breastfeeding, producing milk. Hence, it is often referred to as lactation mastitis. The patient feels a hard, sore spot inside the breast. Mastitis can occur as a result of an infection or a blocked milk duct."Doctor said he won't do an operation it it will worsen the affected area.He said i will continue to breasfeed but in other side because the affected area has a bacteria. He gave after Cloxacillin and Declofenac after a week taking the medicines, It was afternoon,My breast just burst out,The fluid came out was like an avocado shake,The milk was color green.I rushed to the hospital and ask what to do,He just gave me again Cloxacillin for one week and he said it will be ok after one week and i can breastfeed again my baby normally. He's right after one week,The pain was gone although my breast had an open wound,Still waiting for it to heal and cleaning it regularly helps easily to heal.Having mastitis is the worst thing that can mother experienced in breastfeeding journey,All i can say is prevention is better than cure,In my experienced let your baby feed anytime he wants,Right position while breasfeeding also is important for baby and mother. Most important thing is if you feel your breast was full express it pump or hand express,After having mastitis when Mishael was 3 months old and now he is 13 mos.old i'm donating my extra milk to Milk Bank in public hospital.Prevent me from having mastitis again while helping too.

CDR-King’s advocates sustainable living thru California E-bike

Disruptors are welcome, from an old school perspective to the most advanced technological breakthroughs in power supply, whichever era you may be, CHANGE is inevitable.

Nikola Tesla during our primary days as student was sadly in obscurity till we reach high school. He challenged the existing and widely accepted manner of lighting though oil lamps to the macro voltage - electricity distribution system courtesy of his well-accepted Alternating Current most commonly known AC.

Nikola Tesla is not as famous as Tomas Edison as taught during basic education, but his works and legacy blazes up to this day. Same aspiration as CDR-King, your one stop media provider intends to manifest, to bring products and cost efficient means of power/electricity supply to every household.

California E-bikes, a CDR-King subsidiary, open its doors in TONDO. The branch is powered by a hybrid electricity system that enables sustainable solar energy. As environmental friendly as it should be, it also aims to display similar concept Solar-kit for ones household in turn helps you save thousands of your hard earned money on monthly electric bill.
California E-bike started its operation in the Philippines early 2013 with E-Scooter and later on came out with other variants of e-bikes. Today California E-bike offers more than 30 variants in more than 40 branches.

With the steady growth of e-bike followers, California E-bike is gearing towards its mission to improve transportation in an eco-friendly way, one e-bike at a time and reaffirming its efforts towards Green Living to save our environment.

Teaching a Pre-Schooler to Write is a Challenge

Mikael, Knows and familiar with the letters, Numbers, and shapes. Now he's three years old i started him to practice writing his name.At first he was using colors and he loves it but when i gave him the pencil,All his attention was focus on the pencil because it's hard and it has eraser. He did'nt want to draw or write. At first, i let him do whatever he wanted.Lately,I force him to drew a line,I showed him how to do it.I noticed it's very hard for him to hold the pencil,He can't hold it hard.I'm struggling how can i teach him how handle it,It's a challenge for me also because he is left handed. He cannot hold it until now.I read some article that "Experts recommend pinching the pencil between the thumb and index finger and resting it on the side of the middle finger, but it's okay if your child holds the pencil with all three fingers."Some kids are still learning to hold down a piece of paper with one hand while writing with the other.
I need more patient, and I think I should do some muscles exercise for him.Good thing is he's trying and i will make teach him just like we're playing sometimes i forced him it looked like for him it's a chore to finish.I need more Ideas on how to teach like him to write.By next year he'l go to school.I'm his first teacher,I will help him before he enroll.

post·par·tum

pōstˈpärdəm/

adjective

adjective: post-partum; adjective: postpartum

following childbirth or the birth of young.

Postpartum depression is a treatable medical illness that affects about 13% of women after giving birth. It can develop anywhere from a few weeks to a year after delivery, but it's most common in the first three monthspostpartum. This topic is about major depression triggered bychildbirth. It is different from the "baby blues," which many women have in the first couple of weeks after childbirth.

Postpartum depression is a serious illness that can occur in the first few months after childbirth. It also can happen after miscarriage and stillbirth.

Postpartum depression can make you feel very sad, hopeless, and worthless. You may have trouble caring for and bonding with your baby.

In rare cases, a woman may have a severe form of depression called postpartum psychosis. This is an emergency, because it can quickly get worse and put her or others in danger.

It's very important to get treatment for depression. The sooner you get treated, the sooner you'll feel better and enjoy your baby.
You have a greater chance of getting postpartum depression if:
You've had depression or postpartum depression before.
You have poor support from your partner, friends, or family.
You have a sick or colicky baby.
You have a lot of other stress in your life.

Postpartum depression is treated with counseling and antidepressant medicines. Women with milder depression may be able to get better with counseling alone. But many women need both. Moms can still breast-feed their babies while taking certain antidepressants.

To help yourself get better, make sure you eat well, get some exercise every day, and get as much sleep as possible. Get support from family and friends if you can.

Try not to feel bad about yourself for having this illness. It doesn't mean you're a bad mother. Many women have postpartum depression. It may take time, but you can get better with treatment.

In women who were receiving medical care, 50% of patients experienced depression for more than 1 year after childbirth. The review also found that in women who were not receiving clinical treatment, 30% of women with postpartum depression were still depressed up to 3 years after giving birth.

Tips in Choosing Halloween Costume fo your kids

When Mikael was one year old we started to dress him upan an  halloween costume and have trick or treat at the malls. When he was one year old we decided to dress him like a little genie,But unfornately the costume we bought was like Aladin and sort of genie. But it's ok because some people says he's a little genie.

He don't know what is Trick or Treat he's just happy receiving treats,Ended up all treats are mine.lol! And then last year i decided him to dress up like a chef,He was so cute we also bought some kitchen utensils just for props. We are the one who decides because he don't know yet what he wanted to be.He just like running and receiving treats and be with other kids that's why we make sure he also have his costume.I don't spend a lot my budget was php 500 below and i don't want him to look scary and use body paint.Halloween does'nt need to be scary all the times.

Have you decide already what costume your kids will be wearing?I want Mikael to be a little doctor this month.Cute right?Let me share some tips to you when choosing a halloween costume.

1.Budget-Limit your budget don't spend too much on costumes. If you can DIY much better.
2.What type of Costume-Scary,Cute Classic or Fairytale.
3.Weather-Consider the weather.Don't let your kids wear that makes him feel uncomfort.

TRYPOPHOBIA-Fear of many holes

I decided to google Trypophobia because i saw in instagram a photo that irritates me,Well a photo of an make up artist and i swear i can't forget the image.I can't explain what i felt.So i guess i have this trypophobia,Have you experienced this kind of feeling too? Look at the images below,Photos are not mine ofcourse.Just look at the image and let me know what do you feel.

TRYPOPHOBIA
“trypo” is greek for punching, drilling, and/or boring holes; and “phobia” is of course also Greek for “Ewww get that away from me!”

According to Trypophobia.com Trypophobia is not a real phobia.Trypophobia is a proposed pathological fear of objects with irregular patterns of holes, such as beehives, ant hills and lotus seed heads. It is however a very real and natural reaction. Your discomfort (e.g. skin crawling, shivering, nausea, etc.) is an automatic reaction of the sympathetic nervous system known as horripilation. There is nothing you can do to avoid this reaction (and perhaps might even go as far as to congratulate yourself for having a greater density of proprioception than others). But there is something you can do to get rid of the discomfort after experiencing the horripilation.

Symptoms of Trypophobia

An individual suffering from tyrpophobia generally experiences a feeling of uneasiness and itchiness on the entire body after looking at a substance or an object that has lots of tiny holes on its surface such as bone marrow, lotus seed pods, a wasp’s nest, a sponge etc.

A person suffering from trypophobia usually has two different reaction possibilities at the appearance of the ‘holes.’ He may either watch it for a while and then think of covering or destroying it, or he would suffer from dizziness at the sight of these holes.
