4 ways to turn passions into something valuable and powerful

Reports have called millennials the “burnout generation.” This is further expanded by the 2020 Deloitte Global Millennial Survey, which found that 57% of Filipino millennials feel anxious or stressed all or most of the time. The 2022 report found that 45% of millennials around the world feel “burned out due to the intensity/demands of their working environments.”

There are so many stressors these days. Work, finances, and the welfare of their family are just some of the things that induce anxiety. Their only solace is their passion, which ranges from creating and consuming content to playing mobile games.

With all the stressors hounding millennials every day, it’s important to turn passions into something valuable and powerful. Here are four ways to do that:

Make time for it. Face it, there’s always something that needs to be done. It’s important to set boundaries between work and leisure because a mind must be well-rested in order to function well in the office. It’s not enough to simply find time for one’s passion. These days, it’s about making it. Set a rule that after 6 PM, work notifications must be switched off. The hours after that must be dedicated to rest, spending time with loved ones, and hobbies.
Connect with like-minded people. A group of friends who share the same passion will most likely encourage it. Friends who enjoy the same bands can go to gigs together, while gamers can join tournaments or just play together. Film buffs can have movie nights where they can discuss their favorite scenes. There are communities that cater to every passion, from Facebook groups to apps like Goodreads for books, Letterboxd for movies, and Reddit for anything under the sun.

Share it with the world. Social media has made the world smaller, allowing everyone to reach bigger audiences. Creators can share their work on platforms like Instagram and TikTok, which can build a following with the help of TokMatik TikTok followers. While the point of pursuing one’s passion is a break from the monotony of work, this could lead to freelancing gigs or even a change in career.

Have the right device. The right tool can turn a simple hobby into something more powerful. Samsung’s Galaxy M33 5G and M23 5G are great companions for young professionals who want to take their passions to the next level, especially content creation and mobile games.

Both smartphones are equipped with a multi-camera system to capture memories. The Galaxy M33 5G and M23 5G’s suite of lenses is bannered by the 50MP Main camera, which takes photos and videos in clear detail. The smartphones’ 6.6” displays with Full HD+ technology made the gaming experience richer. Lags are virtually undetectable with the 120Hz refresh rate. There’s space for everything since the smartphones have 128GB of internal storage, which can be expanded by up to 1TB with a microSD card.

Hamilo Coast: Nurturing nature for 15 years and beyond

The current rate at which individuals observe sustainability practices is far from halting climate change. Whether it is reducing the use of disposable items or saving more energy, environmentally conscious activities will only yield significant results if everyone is “cast in the same mold,” so to speak. That said, high-impact global sustainable development lies within the responsibility of the government and large organizations—conglomerates among them.

Understanding such a role, SM Prime Holdings, Inc., one of the largest integrated property developers in Southeast Asia, has incorporated its sustainable practices in its developments early on. Through SM Prime’s Costa Del Hamilo Inc., a leader in the leisure resort industry and the movers behind Hamilo Coast – this premium seaside complex in Nasugbu, Batangas, fosters a tangible connection with nature. Marking its quindecennial year, Hamilo Coast looks back at its milestones and achievements with its core emphasis on sustainable development.

“Sustainability has been at the forefront of our vision in providing a resort lifestyle. We strive to practice both environmental and social sustainability in our operations through our partners and communities,” Franklin M. Bolalin, Assistant Vice President for Hamilo Estate Management, said.

Disaster risk reduction
Every year, the country deals with an average of 19 typhoons, with some often resulting in damages to properties and loss of life. Coastal defenses such as seawalls and breakwater structures are often implemented to resist storm surges. In the case of Hamilo Coast, mangrove trees are the key.

Hamilo Coast’s 100,000 square-meter or equivalent to 10 hectares mangrove belt is one of the largest mangrove areas in the municipality. The sustainable beach resort town has since planted 50,000 mangrove propagules, protected hand-in-hand with the conservation organization World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in the Philippines.

Biodiversity conservation
Apart from disaster mitigation, mangrove trees also benefit the climate by absorbing greenhouse gases (GHGs) and carbon dioxide. This capacity nurtures the ecosystem and biodiversity in the area, providing habitat for a wide array of species.

Climate change is one of the most pressing and defining global issues today. It has become imperative for both the public and private sectors to continue to band together to primarily, safeguard the welfare of the people and step up to strengthen the resilience of the nation.

The Philippines currently ranks third globally when it comes to climate change vulnerability. In relation to its geographical location, it is more exposed to altering intensities of climate change manifested through erratic weather systems and natural calamities.

The private sector is called upon now more than ever to align with the principles of sustainable development and to take on the same firm stance on environmentally sound practices in its operations.

SMDC Weekend Market

Limited market information and market access are two major obstacles to increased smallholder farmers’ income. According to studies, farmers in grassroots communities often lack access to profitable, value-added markets. In the absence of critical supporting functions, such as infrastructure and service provision – farmers struggle to transform their traditional subsistence farms into a feasible commercially oriented production. Buyers, on the other hand, such as wholesalers, find it difficult to get the quantity and quality of products that they need for processing on a timely basis.

Because of this challenge, SM Foundation collaborated with various government agencies and engaged various SM business units such as the SM Development Corp. (SMDC), SM Supermalls, and SM Markets to ensure that local farmers under the Kabalikat Sa Kabuhayan (KSK) program have venues where they can sell their produce amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

From training KSK participants in practicing sustainable farming technologies via technology transfer and product development, SMFI, together with various SM business units used the power of collaboration to create farm-market linkage - which intends to create a powerful driver of rural poverty reduction.

The Good Guys Market links KSK farmers to consumers while ensuring food security in SMDC communities.

Team social good
The Good Guys Market is a weekend market set up in SMDC properties to connect small-scale farmers directly with consumers—condo residents. This initiative links around 26,000 small-scale farmers directly with consumers.

Together with SM Supermalls, SMFI launched the Green Lane initiative. Led by the wives of the KSK farmers, the social enterprise offers a wide variety of quality yet affordable indoor and landscape plants which cater to every enthusiast’s preference. In addition, the team also launched the KSK Farmers’ Market Day to provide farmers with market exposure in select SM Malls nationwide.

Meanwhile, SMFI also partnered with SM Markets in creating a market for onion farmers. Through the partnership, SMFI was able to establish specialized onion pop-up booths creating a stable market for small-scale onion farmers.

Millions of smallholder farmers are seeking ways to improve the productivity of their farms and to improve their market performance. Modern farming technologies, paired with market linkage, such as the SM KSK, play a vital role in improving the livelihood of small-scale farmers and their families.

SM Foundation’s Kabalikat Sa Kabuhayan (KSK) is SMFI’s Social Good program on sustainable agriculture that intends to uplift the lives of Filipinos in grassroots communities through sustainable agriculture via technology transfer, product development, and farm-market linkage. To date, the program has trained more than 28,500 farmers from more than 900 cities/municipalities nationwide.

Here’s why #PinoyFreedom is more than just a holiday

In anticipation of the 124th anniversary of Philippine Independence, SM Supermalls shares why Independence Day is a pivotal turning point in our history.

It is a celebration of our identity as Filipinos
Independence Day represents the core of our beliefs and our identity as Filipinos – a strong and courageous race willing to fight for freedom’s sake. After almost 400 years of colonization, the raising of our flag and the singing of our anthem serves as more than an obligation; it commemorates the heroism embodied by every Filipino who fought for our freedom. This June 12, 2022, at 8:30 am, come in the colors of the Philippine flag and head to the SM Supermalls’ Flag Raising Ceremony as we show the love of our country and pay our respects to those who fought to protect it.

Stand proud and celebrate being Filipino with SM Supermalls

As our national hero, Jose Rizal once said, ‘He who does not know how to look back at where he came from will never get to his destination.’ Tracing one’s roots is important to build one’s character. It is crucial to keep your feet on the ground as you reach greater heights. The same rings true for all Filipinos; we cannot truly appreciate the freedom we enjoy today without being aware of what our ancestors have fought for to gain our independence.

To celebrate Philippine Independence Day, SM Supermalls will be holding major events to commemorate this national holiday and encourage Pinoys to further embrace Filipino culture.

Join SM Supermalls’ Flag Raising Ceremony
Show your love of your country and value the sacrifices of the Filipinos who died protecting and defending it. Come in the colors of the Philippine flag and head to SM Supermalls’ Flag Raising Ceremony on June 12, 2022 – assembly time is at 8:30am. Give it the utmost importance, as this is the thread that knits Filipinos together from one generation to the next.

Mondelēz International Makes Friends with Miming

Snacks Company Mondelēz International is committed to growing its business by making its products in the right way, with a positive impact on people and the planet. The Company calls it “Sustainable Snacking,” with a vision to help create a future where people and the planet thrive. While sustainable snacking covers many areas of its supply chain, one area that the Company is focusing on is the packaging. Mondelēz International commits that by 2025, 100% of its packaging will be designed to be recycled.

Apart from the Company’s actions to create better and less packaging, it also aims to support net-zero waste through improved systems, aiming for a circular pack economy. They believe in education, in shaping recycling habits early on in childhood so that everyone can contribute to reducing waste today and in the future.

With this goal, Mondelēz International has renewed its partnership with the advocacy group Save Philippine Seas (SPS) for educational materials on waste management. This year, the two have collaborated with Miming and Friends, an all-Filipino and homegrown YouTube channel focused on providing valuable lessons to kids through animation and songs.

Continued Partnership with Save Philippine Seas
The first episode of Miming and Friends supported by Mondelēz International was released on World Oceans Day on June 8, 2022, and is the first in a series of five. It talks about the importance of segregating waste at home, to ensure they don’t end up in the ocean. SPS serves as consultant and advisor to the Miming episodes on waste collection. Led by Anna Oposa, Executive Director and “Chief Mermaid,” SPS is an organization that aims to empower citizens towards environmental consciousness, leading to collective action and behavior change. In 2021, Mondelēz International and SPS released a series of infographics sharing the real reasons behind marine litter, entitled “There’s Plenty of Plastics in the Sea; How did this happen?”

Partnering with Miming and Friends
Miming and Friends, led by Cat-Fish Miming, flying lizard Buboy, and Unicorn Anacorn, join the many friends they meet along the way in learning about the world. Other video topics include values, how to count and sing, and the importance of caring for each other and the environment - all from the multilingual and multicultural perspective of the Filipino experience. The channel is the creation of Miming and Fwends Animation Studios, formed by partners Ramon and Meryll del Prado from Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, “The values we espouse through Miming and Friends very much align with the values of Mondelēz International and Save Philippine Seas. We are thrilled about this partnership as it fully synergizes with the greater goal of having responsible children as they grow up to become mindful adults.”

“We are delighted to work with Mondelēz International and Miming and Friends for educational videos and songs about caring for our environment, particularly in helping shape waste collection habits early on among children,” adds Oposa. “We support waste collection projects in communities, and we also know that early education plays an important role in empowering everyone to prevent marine litter.”

Thoughts, realizations and plans!

Everything has changed since the pandemic, the truth is we are all affected. It seems wearing masks, handwashing often, and disinfecting anything make our daily routine because we cannot see our enemy, the virus. And because we are following simple steps to make our lives safe and protected, little by little we managed the challenges that the pandemic brought to us. I remember, our family members change clothes immediately and take a bath whenever we are coming home from outside and we made sure everything is sanitized thoroughly, to be honest, we are not accepting visitors at that time because we are afraid of who might be the carrier, we don't know who will be the next and we don't want to that happen to anyone of us.

Since the pandemic the economy, the businesses, and other individuals losses their jobs. All of us are affected, the reality is so heartbreaking because different small industries had no choice but to close their business. But, regardless of what had happened, people need to move and look forward. Because of the pandemic, there are people who found their talent, and their passion and started something to hold onto and not stop.

So many realizations from me and I think other people too, in a short period of time everything we have will be gone. People we love can leave us without a sign, we don't know until when our life is. One good thing that happened was there is still humanity people around the world are helping each other in a different ways they can.

One particular realization I thought of was to save and invest in things that will matter in the future. I need to give more importance to safety. Now, slowly our lives are going back to what it is but the world is different now and this is our new normal. many of us are adjusting.

I mentioned that I need to give more importance to safety and saving just in case of emergencies like what had happened. things will not be hard for my family that much. Anyway, so I stumbled upon this tool online that I can use for me to be able to buy the car I needed. Commuting is so hard and it's not safe especially after the pandemic most of us are still afraid of the virus. I thought it will be good for me to take a step. I am thinking of buying a brand-new or the used one what do you think's better? So I was saying, I just bookmarked this tool. Actually, it is a carpaymentcalculator.net where you can calculate how much your monthly payment is, everything I need to know is here and I can say it's accurate. Plus, the scheduling of payment is a superb feature for me, I don't wanna be late in paying. How I can I save while paying for a car, right? My computation in everything must be exact for me to be able to do that. I know, I can.

It's been a long day for me today, guess what I am now playing the car lightning race just found it today and love it. Maybe you should too, try it and let's forget about anything for just a moment.

My kids will play too, I know for sure because they asked me what's the sound they heard. Anyway, let me know your thoughts about my post, and take care!

Protecting Skin

Last month my family and I went on a vacation trip. We had so much fun under the sun enjoying the sea and yes I still got sunburn after, even if I had reapplied too much sunscreen still not enough. So maybe I thought because of what I wore, my swimwear was not protecting my skin enough.

I have two kids so obviously I find it hard to find the right kind of swimwear for me, well it's not only for me because I am the mother of our family buying swimwear for the whole family is one of my obligations too! Anyway, I'm going to talk about myself and what I wanted when purchasing. Back again last month, because of that incident. On our next vacation trip or on the next purchase of my swimwear I am gonna look for the ones that cover my skin enough and of course, will look good on me.

So, just recently actually about last week. I found this site, Lyra Swim, it's an online store where you can buy swimwear and I am not talking about ordinary swimwear because I saw swimsuits that I'm thinking of last month. For women out there who are like me, you might find your next favorite swimwear here at LYRA modest swimwear you can find comfy swimwears that'll boost more of your confidence while doing activities outdoor or simply lying under the sun on the beach and not worrying about what you are wearing. Check out below some of the pieces from Lyra that I am eyeing for. The best part of choosing my next swimwear here is that the sizes are available from XS to XXL. Try browsing some of their collections too!

SOFIA CROP - TROPICAL PINK

Accessorize a bit on your next trip and don't forget to look for the right and appropriate swimwear for you that will protect your skin and give you the comfort you're needed. As for me, I just learned a few things about swimwear and will definitely be picking what's best for a mom like me next time.

Lastly, keep in mind that it's all about having fun and loving your own skin while caring for it.

Shapewear Choices

I love to wear that show my curvy body. It's like it gives me more confidence, I feel more beautiful and sexy. But, of course, sometimes there are dresses that won't agree with my decisions. After giving birth some of my clothes don't fit but that's okay because it is normal for our bodies as women. What I did was find a solution for myself to look and feel awesome in every clothes I wear. I am sharing what I am using and it's comfy, the best body shaper I have experienced.  I don't feel anything, and yes it's a thing for most ladies nowadays to buy theirs too!

This is the AirSlim® Barely-There Feels One-Piece Bodysuit from www.shapellx.com
features with breathable fabric that keeps you cool when you are wearing it if you are in-country like mine, this is a must-buy!

Our choices in fashion are different, but we all have in common and that is to feel comfortable when we wear the styles that we really like. In the growing market of fashion, companies are experimenting with new designs to cater to our needs.
Most women love to shop, for it's like therapy. When I am down or feeling blue sometimes when there's a store promotion or discount I always check out what's the new trend that suits my personality and mood. Most of my girlfriends love to wear shapewear, I think it's our common denominator. I think it's a must-have in our closet if you know what I mean. Shapewear developed throughout the decades, it's a growing trend in all ages.

For casual day outfits, I love wearing jeans. My secret to a perfect fit is the shaper shorts. Look at the picture below, this one is from Shappellx the AirSlim® Lace Steel Boned Butt Enhancer effortlessly makes our thighs gorgeous and perfect, and yes it doesn't deform, and also it is anti-slip so no need to worry when wearing it.

Lightweight fabrics materials are heaven, it is one of the qualities we are looking for when buying clothes or underwear. Thong shapewear is one of my wise choices, even recommended it to my friends because it really gives a comfortable feeling that you can move freely without worrying about any tags, or seamlines.

For me, wearing shapewear is not about looking slim, but more about the comfort and confidence that it gives. So, it is better to learn the differences between the products if you are planning to buy, from the fabrics and all. It is good to be well-informed, do quick research, and read reviews too!

Let me know if you love wearing shapewear too in the comments =)

SM: Creating shared value through tech-voc education

One of the flagship programs of SM Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of the SM group, is its scholarship program. Aside from the college education offerings, the program also provides venues for students who would like to pursue a career in the skilled labor industry.

The gradual reopening of the economy not just in the country, but around the world, brings hope to more job opportunities for Filipinos who lost their jobs because of the health crisis. Indeed, the support for individuals eyeing to be part of the skilled industry is needed now more than ever.
It was in this light when SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SM Prime), together with SM Foundation (SMFI), Don Bosco One TVET Phils. Inc. and the city government of Pasay partnered to give educational support to 20 deserving youth coming from Pasay. To date, SMFI has already produced more than 4,500 tech-voc graduates who are now gainfully employed.

A dream to be fulfilled
One of the current SM tech-voc scholars from Pasay is Stephen Parina. His dream is to put up his own automotive shop since aside from his interest in cars and motorcycles, he intends to uplift the economic status of his family. Both of his parents are temporary employees at the Pasay City Hall.
