As a mom, you can probably attest to the fact that you are constantly trying to do all you can to keep your child safe in your home. This is normal. This is the right thing to do. In fact, this is something you simply have to do. But when you do so, it’s important to not let your own safety slip your mind. This may come as a surprise, but your home poses you as many dangers as it does your child. They’re different kinds of dangers that your child faces, granted, but they’re dangers all the same. Home should be the one place a child knows it’s safe and secure. Keeping your home safe for your child is important, but there are often unseen dangers that we don’t know about. Children can be accident prone, but as parents it’s our job to protect them and look after them when something goes wrong. Luckily, there’s more information than ever on what may be harmful to our children and how to prevent it. Here’s what you can do to keep your child safe at home.

Housing repairs can be a real curveball. If a pipe suddenly bursts without warning, you’ll have to deal with all of the fallout, not to mention paying a huge bill to have it fixed. These sorts of disasters can happen anytime, and the chances are, you probably hadn’t planned for it. It’s likely to cause all sorts of problems with your schedule and your budget. You might think that there’s no way of dealing with home repair disasters. They just happen and you can do nothing about it, right? Well, maybe not. With a bit of foresight, you can prevent disaster from ever happening in the first place.

Foundations

The bedrock of your house is the foundation. They hold everything together so if something bad happens, you’re likely to be in a lot of trouble. There are a lot of tell-tale signs that can help you to identify foundation issues before they become major issues. The key to damage limitation is to act before it is too late. If it ain't broken - it still might need replacing! If you notice sloping walls or floors, and large cracks in the walls, alarm bells should be ringing. Another lesser-known sign is doors that are difficult to close. That can also be caused by hinges that are out of line so don’t jump the gun every time a door gets a bit stiff.

Water Damage

If you’ve got a mold problem then it might be a symptom of a larger water damage issue. As well as mold, water damage can lead to a whole host of other problems so letting it get too bad is going to cost you. Areas of the house that have a lot of wood in them are especially susceptible so make sure to keep a close eye on them. Make sure to look out for any areas that might appear wet, even the smallest patch could turn into something much larger so deal with it immediately. You’ll kick yourself if you put it off and it gets a lot worse in the future. As well as looking for wet patches, take notice of any areas in the house that might smell a bit odd. Wet rot will create a pretty bad odor so if areas of your house start to stink, it might be due to water damage.  

Everyone has an inner child. You might have to grow up as you get older and especially as you start a family, but that child is still in you somewhere. If you've lost touch with your childish side, it could do you good to find it again. It can be a great way to bond with your kids and to set a good example for them in some areas too. Being an adult and a parent doesn't always have to mean being serious and responsible. Sometimes, showing your kids that it's ok to dream, be impulsive or have fun is just as important. Try these ways to get in touch with your inner child and improve your relationship with your children.
